Michael Carter on Setting 1979 National High School Shot Put Record 81-3.50 (24.77m) - Golden West Invitational 2019

Olympic silver medalist and three-time Super Bowl champion Michael Carter returned to the 60th annual Golden West Invitational at Oak Ridge High in El Dorado Hills, Calif., to reflect on the national high school shot put record of 81-3.50 (24.77m) he produced on his final attempt June 16. 1979 at the Golden West meet at Sacramento State. In addition to being a mentor at a clinic for young throwers, Carter, who attended Jefferson High in Texas before winning a combined seven NCAA indoor and outdoor shot put titles at SMU, also discussed the longest-standing national high school record and its place in his career.
